      Bridging the Gap: Yoga, Mindfulness & Social Justice

      What: A 6-week, experiential learning series bridging the gap between mind-body practices and social justice work and education. Learn tools to minimize harm, increase awareness, educate, build community, and leverage privilege, all through a mind-body lens. For Whom: Are you seeking to deepen your understanding of current social justice topics? Are you looking to bring your yoga or meditation practice off the mat and into your community? Are you interested in the intersection between mind-body practices and social justice work? If these questions speak to you, this series is for you! In social justice education, both race-specific and multiracial spaces are critical to engage in courageous conversations, learn, heal, and grow. This interactive workshop is designed specifically for 18+ year old white, or white-presenting folks who are ready to explore the intersection between social justice and mind-body practices such as meditation, mindfulness, and yoga. No previous experience is necessary. [Our multiracial / multicultural sibling series for POC and white folks led by Keena Atkinson and Jeremiah Zuba will be offered during the same time frame, on Wednesdays. Registration coming soon at]. Why: We live in a society with seen and unseen systems of oppression and injustice everywhere. We as white or white-presenting folks can leverage our privilege and placement in society to create a more equitable, just, and kind world for all.  When:  Thursday, March 14: 6:30-8:30 PM Thursday, March 21: 6:30-8:30 PM Thursday, April 4: 6:30-8:30 PM Thursday, April 11: 6:30-8:30 PM Thursday, April 18: 6:30-8:30 PM Thursday, April 25: 6:30-8:30 PM Where: Wil-Mar Neighborhood Center, Youth Room, 953 Jenifer St., Madison, WI IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a 6-week series founded on community building, creating safe and brave spaces, and authentic human connection. *Attendance at a minimum of 5 sessions is required.*                                                                                 We look forward to co-creating this experience with you! FAQs What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? There are bus lines and bus stops within 1 minute of the Wil-Mar Neighborhood Center. Free, on-site parking is available. What should I bring / wear to this event? Please wear comfortable clothes suitable for moderate and accessible movement. Bring a journal, pen, water bottle, and a yoga mat if you have one (some will be available on-site). I don't have much yoga or mindfulness experience, is that okay? Yes! This workshop is accessible for everyBODY.  I don't know that much about social justice, is that okay? Yes! Please, do come! You will likely learn a lot in a safe, yet brave space.  I have a lot of yoga or social justice experience, is this still for me? Yes! We are exploring new intersections between yoga, mindfulness, and social justice.
