Family Bike Camping // New Glarus Woods State Park // September 2019

The third of our family-focused bike camping trips is a peaceful and rolling ride to the south of Madison. The ride from The Cargo Bike Shop to New Glarus Woods State Park is approximately 30 miles. We will spend the majority of our ride on the Badger State Trail (trail passes required, can be purchased at The Cargo Bike Shop). The path is paved asphalt to start, transitioning to crushed limestone just north of Paoli. Terrain is generally rolling, with approximately 575 feet of climbing. The route has good stopping points along the way, including the village of Belleville, but has less frequent/easy access to services than the ride to Brigham offers. You can ride with the group or use our queue sheet and ride at your own pace and/or your own schedule. We selected a wooded site at New Glarus Woods that has plenty of great spots for your tent and a campfire ring. Both water and bathrooms are available a short distance from the campsite, and as with all our trips we will provide water coolers to save everybody trips to get water. In the park there is a playground and plenty of hiking trails to explore. New Glarus Brewing Company is approximately a 1.6 mile ride from our site. What's provided:- Guided group ride to and from the group campsite. For those that can't ride with the group we'll have queue sheets to help you find your way- Grill to cook on and a water cooler for easy water access- Gear shuttle, including cooler space, in case you have some necessities or food that must be kept cold that you don’t want to lug on your bicycles- Campfire wood and s'mores fixings- Coffee from Cafe Domestique and a selection of pastries from Batch Bakehouse Sunday morning- 2 Silipint commemorative glasses – either pint or half pint sizeFor those looking to make the meal planning portion as easy as possible, give Underground Butcher a call and they will assemble a meal to meet your tastes and group size. We will coordinate picking up and transporting meals ordered at Underground to the campsite for you if you desire, just let us know. There is car access and parking available if you have part of the family that wants to drive to join us.This is a family bike camping trip first and foremost, but if don't have kids and want to experience bike camping you are welcome to join. Just be cool with kids being around and the schedule accommodating their needs as far as stops along the way and quiet time at the campsite. Basically, kids of all ages are welcome! If you have questions about if you can do it, if your group will fit in, or really anything please contact us and we'll help figure things out.
